As a podcaster one of your main goals is to have a high listenership. A high listenership increases your exposure and chances of making money from your show. Some shows invest in advertisements to increase their listenership but there are ways to do it for free. Here are some methods we’ve used to increase our listenership:
Know your audience
Advertisers spend money on ads because of the relationship podcasters have with their audience. You should know your listeners the way you know your best friend. If you’re unsure of who you’re talking to, try niching down. It’ll help you identify a person’s language and pain points.
Be intentional with your episodes
The key to being intentional is to be efficient and clear in your messaging. Think about what you want your listener to walk away with? How do you want to impact them? What do you want them to do? Planning out your show notes will help you translate that. Be clear with your subject matter so that it’ll make listeners want to share the show. The best form of marketing is word of mouth. You want people to talk about it so your podcast won’t be in a grey area.
Have a platform outside of the podcast to further engage with listeners
Always remember that any of these social media platforms can go away. So it’s important to funnel out your audience to different platforms, so you can communicate with them in multiple ways. Consider using Youtube as a platform, it’s a search engine people can find you on.
